The Center for Teaching works collaboratively with faculty, students and administrators across all ten schools of the university to foster and sustain a culture that practices, values, and rewards university teaching and learning as vital forms of scholarship. The Center pursues this mission through conducting individual and departmental instructional consultations; sponsoring dialogue about teaching and learning (through conferences, workshops, discussion groups, etc.); creating and disseminating research-based best practices, models and approaches to university teaching and learning; and respecting contextual and disciplinary differences in teaching and learning.

Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree and 48 months experience; Ph.D. or Ed.D. strongly preferred.
Successful candidates will possess the following: successful teaching experience at the college or university level; strong grasp of best practices and research in learning and teaching in higher education; familiarity with the academic mission of the university, and the goals of both liberal and professional undergraduate and graduate education; ability to work effectively with instructors and administrators on strategic planning, assessing needs, and pursuing the Center's mission across the university; experience in planning, implementing and evaluating programs and services; excellent consultation, interpersonal and presentation skills; strong writing and editing capabilities; ability to set priorities, and to work both independently and as part of a team.
Job Summary: The Assistant Director will work with faculty, teaching assistants and other instructors across the university to advance excellence in teaching and learning at Vanderbilt. This work will take a variety of forms, in three general areas:
Teaching:
Consults with individuals and academic units about a variety of learning and teaching issues.
Conducts and evaluates workshops, seminars, and other programs and events.
Creates print and Web-based materials on a broad range of issues related to learning and teaching.
Occasionally or regularly teaches credit-bearing courses at Vanderbilt.
Service:
Collaborates with director and staff to plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate a variety of programs and activities to support Vanderbilt teaching and learning at all levels.
Aids in preparation of budgets, plans, and reports.
Represents unit in absence of director.
Research:
Develops assessment tools and research on teaching and learning issues at Vanderbilt.
Conducts research and contributes to national dialogue on teaching and learning.
