Job Summary:
Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in performing chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for use in screening and safety assessments of subjects in clinical drug trials. Provides leadership, training, coaching and mentoring of laboratory staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing day-to-day supervision or oversight of the laboratory operation and personnel performing testing and reporting test results. Manages technologists, technicians, and laboratory staff.
Must be accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed.
Responsible for monitoring test analysis and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
Provides orientation, performance feedback and annual evaluation for laboratory staff
Reviews procedures and reports to meet certification standards. Reviews them periodically to maintain a current status.
Researches new testing procedures and instrumentation for suitability in the laboratory.
Sets standards, policies, and guidelines for the efficient management of the laboratory.
Initiates and monitors Quality Assurance in the laboratory.
Establishes the Quality Control program appropriate for the testing performed in the laboratory and monitors its efficiency both short and long term.
Works as a liaison between management, clinical studies personnel, and the laboratory.
Prepares for certification inspections by Health Care Financing Administration or their agents and submits a program for corrections of any deficiencies found; initiates changes to correct these deficiencies.
Ensures the resolution of technical and clerical errors before volunteer results are reported or as soon as possible after patient results are reported.
Reviews and edits proposal study budgets for accuracy and feasibility regarding laboratory testing and data entry requirements.
Ensure the quality of service provided by team members meets the requirements of both internal and external clients.
Instill in all team members the Companys commitment to quality and meeting the clients requirement without error, on time, every time.
Ensure that Laboratory staff is trained and compliant with SOPs and Skills checks.
Ensure that all training files are up to date and complete in accordance with SOPs and ICH/GCP.
Ensure that a safe working environment is maintained and that safe working practices are employed.
Ensure that full and accurate data records are maintained.
Performs supervisory duties including but not limited to interviewing, hiring, training, intervention, discipline, and discharge of operations staff.
Coaches and mentors staff. Initiates, plans and implements appropriate staff development programs.
Continuously seeks out new and better ideas, driving best practices.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in science.
Medical Technologist, (ASCP) Certificate.
Six Sigma Green Belt is preferred.
Required:
8-10 years clinical Laboratory experience.
Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience.
Additional experience may be substituted for education requirements.
