The Gary Community School Corporation located in Gary, Indiana, is looking for innovative, self starters and risk takers, to meet the urban educational challenges of its 16,000 students. We are seeking to fill the following position
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree with course work in the area of food and nutrition from an accredited university or college, or institutional management or related areas with three or more years of food service experience.
Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plans and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Systems and personal computing experience on a mainframe installation.
Must be certified, or eligible to take the ASFSA exam for certification as a School Food Nutrition Specialist (SFNS).
SUPERVISES: All assigned staff
JOB GOAL:
To successfully operate the USDA Child Nutrition Programs by implementing USDA regulation and school district policy and procedures.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides mentor ship to students as assigned to ensure expectation of success.
Administer and direct the implementation of the School Nutrition Program.
Establish procedures for developing, implementing and evaluating goals and objectives for the school food and nutrition programs.
Coordinate nutritional and education opportunities for students, teaching staff, parents and the community.
Approve menus that meet USDA guidelines for child nutrition programs, keeping expenses within budget. Write special menus to meet the needs of medically prescribed diets as required for special needs children.
Develop standards for food preparation and service.
Develop internal audit controls to ensure compliance with school, federal and state regulations.
Review and approve annual local level accountability reviews as required by the USDA between October 31 and February 1 of each year.
Implement the appropriate use of computer systems in the management of the School Nutrition Programs. Works with computer programmers and analysts in developing and implementing systems as needed.
Establishes the organizational chart that clearly defines interrelationships of staff positions.
Director of Food Service
Defines and recommends staffing needs for each school year.
Establish uniform procedures for food service employees, basic job descriptions and annual evaluations.
Recommends placement of food service personnel.
Develops and implements training programs for food service employees.
Develops bid specifications for food and supplies. Develops measures for sampling and evaluating food products. Process and makes final bid recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer.
Confirms USDA commodity needs with the Indiana Department of Education.
Establishes and implements budgeting and financial management systems consistent with local, state and federal requirements.
Administers and supervises the preparation of accurate reports in food, labor and operating costs.
Develops and implements sanitation training programs for food service employees.
Determines the need for repair and replacement of equipment. Determines facility needs in accordance to with industry standards.
Provides school-based support and fulfills an adopt-a-school role on an annual basis.
Performs other duties as assigned.
