Agilent’s Electronic Measurement Group (EMG) in leading the R&D Activities for one of the largest Product Development organizations within the company. This Director of Research and Development is a senior management role where your technical and managerial expertise, balanced with your business communications and strategic vision can make an impact in shaping company product direction, optimizing performance and driving improved business results. The Wireless Business Unit (WBU) is focused on providing world-class products, services and solutions to customers in the wireless, wire line, emerging comms, and digital communications industries. The Mobile Broadband Division (MBD) headquartered in Spokane.
The Mobile Broadband Division is responsible for the development of test solutions for increasingly converged devices and new, complex protocols in the wireless communications industry and for providing leading test solutions for next-generation cellular appliances.. We are the world leaders in one box testers for customers who design and produce cell phones and other wireless communications consumer equipment. The Spokane location was established 25 years ago and has experienced very little turnover, resulting in the creation of a well developed center of expertise. We also have operational labs in China and in Scotland.
Reporting to the Vice President & General Manager of the Mobile Broadband Division, your role as Director of Research and Development will be to lead, develop and execute a winning Product Development strategy for the Mobile Broadband Division (MBD) and its Product Development Organization. As an example, customers are primarily large cell phone manufactures (i.e. Motorola, Nokia, LG, Samsung,) who buy in blocks, typically when establishing a new factory or product line. This position is located in Spokane, WA.
Some of the Responsibilities of this role are as follows:
Provide management and leadership support for a Worldwide organization across 3 major sites in Spokane, WA South Queensferry, Scotland, and Beijing, China
Develop and execute a winning business strategy. Anticipate and respond to market dynamics, technology advances, and competitive movements that impact MBDs business plans
Ensure continued improvements in productivity and R&D design methodologies
Ensure that the development of advanced technology and customer solutions are delivered on time and per established budget
Effectively interface with leaders across multiple groups within Agilent, leveraging the best practices of the R&D community and, foster a strong cross-functional spirit of cooperation
Build a leading product development road map for breakthrough product development efficiency, schedule and cost adherence.
Requirements:
Requirements of the position:
BS/MS Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Equivalent
Minimum 15+ years experience with progressive responsibility in related R&D Laboratory Management
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with International/geographically dispersed teams
Demonstrated ability in leading large development organizations (Greater than 100 people)
Solid experience in Wireless industry technologies and applications
Proven track record of on-time product introductions including software solutions and SDLC
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute effective business strategies. Has a history of exceptional management performance - creates and achieves schedules, manages to a committed budget, and meets performance goals
Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and influence both individuals and teams. Has a proven track record of creating high performance organizations that are focused on delivering industry leading customer solutions that can change the competitive landscape
