Primary Job Responsibilities and Qualifications:
AS, BS, MS or equivalent education and/or experience in laboratory animal science, animal health technology, medical technology, biology or a related life science discipline
AALAS certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician required and LATg preferred within 2 years and/or licensure/certification as an Animal Health Technologist/Veterinary Technician
Minimum 5 years experience in care of a variety of laboratory animal species
Experience in working in an AAALAC accredited program
Working knowledge of USDA, FDA (GLP), EPA, AAALAC governing requirements
Requires knowledge of standard veterinary equipment and instruments.
Proficiency in rodent surgical model development
Proficiency in performing peri-operative care
Ability to lift greater than or equal to 30 pounds
Preferred Background
Minimum 5 years experience as a veterinary technician experienced in working with a variety of
Laboratory animal species within a pharmaceutical environment
Experience in surgical animal model development, primarily in rodents
Job Responsibilities:-
This position requires administrative, clinical, and technical responsibilities. Incumbent will maintain a high standard of veterinary care and animal welfare to the resident laboratory animal population consistent with professional standards; corporate policies; federal, state, and local regulations; and AAALAC guidelines. Provide research support for the discovery and development of new drugs for wide range of therapeutic targets. Provide clinical, scientific and technical support in areas of medical treatment, sample collection, surgical preparation and assistance, and laboratory procedures. Ensure that the appropriate safety, regulatory standards and records management are maintained as required.
Major Responsibilities: All activities and procedures are performed in accordance with the program of veterinary care as directed and implemented by the Senior Staff Veterinarian. The incumbent may be required to perform all or selected responsibilities described within this job description.
Administrative:
Develop and implement work schedules for the Research Support Team for optimum assignment and use of each technician s skills and abilities; report resource needs to the manager; actively communicate status and activities to the team
Assure requisitions from investigative personnel relative to project or technical support are complied within a timely and accurate manner.
Monitor and support ordering and inventory of supplies related to clinical, scientific and technical
Support, support cost accounting and reporting; delegate responsibilities as required
Maintain a working knowledge of applicable regulations and complying with all applicable SOPs, regulations and other internal requirements
Support maintenance of technical support areas and research, diagnostic and clinical equipment; delegate tasks to subordinates as required
Coordinate and schedule preventative maintenance of equipment used for clinical and technical
Support; delegate responsibilities as required
Review, revise and author departmental standard operating procedures related to veterinary clinical care and scientific research support.
Submit monthly highlights and other reports to management as required
Perform data entry, retrieval and review of reports and records with related laboratory animal, medical records and safety assessment data bases
Advise and instruct junior and less experienced team members
Plan, manage and attend monthly meetings of the Research Support Team
Lead group of veterinary associates in the absence of the Senior Staff Veterinarian Training
Assist in orientation and training of new animal and veterinary associates, investigative personnel and animal care specialist regarding departmental procedures, policies, and technical procedures.
Technical
Leads and/or assists investigative personnel with restraining, dosing, and bleeding of animals; data collection; instrumentation; necropsy; surgery; euthanasia; and other technical procedures approved in animal care and use protocols accurately.
