Location: Office of Adult and Career Education
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Demonstrates and teaches patient care in classroom to nursing students and instructs students in principles and application of physical, biological, and psychological subjects related to nursing:
Lectures to students, conducts and supervises laboratory work, issues assignments, and directs seminars and panels.
Prepares and administers examinations, evaluates student progress, and maintains records of student classroom and clinical experience.
May participate in nursing, facility and interagency committees; may participate in individual, group or family therapy with appropriate supervision; may participate in multidisciplinary team meetings; performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
Develops, implements and evaluates nursing curricula to provide overall theoretical and clinical learning.
Cooperates with medical and nursing personnel in evaluating and improving teaching & nursing practices
Acts as a resource person to nursing services at facility and community levels.
Teaching material from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned course schedule.
Conduct assessment of student performance and maintain accurate records as required.
Utilize a variety of teaching techniques to accommodate the learning styles of a diverse student enrollment
Maintains communication with students in discussions, to assist them in achieving completion objectives.
Creates an environment that is safe, conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum of goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear learner outcomes for all lessons and projects.
Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives including instructional media, consistent with the student needs/capabilities.
Maintains archives of student work and correspondence (if necessary), and maintains and verifies student attendance on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Plans and implements workshops for career advancement of nurses and other personnel Assists the administration in implementing all school policies/and or rules governing student conduct, develops reasonable rules of behavior and procedure and maintains order in a far and just manner.
Openly communicates with staff regarding course and student-related problems and concerns.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Considerable knowledge of nursing, treatment modalities, community based health services and community resources; considerable knowledge of dynamics of behavior, growth and development as well as use of group process as a teaching tool.
Knowledge of curriculum development; knowledge of principles, methods and techniques of teaching; considerable interpersonal skills.
Considerable oral and written communication skills; ability to utilize educational assessment and evaluation techniques.
Must have a high level and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to perform moderate computer functions. Proficient in using email, managing files, recording and reporting grades electronically, and using computer applications including word processors, spreadsheets, Internet browsers, and web search engines.
Dynamic presentation skills and documentation of excellent oral communication skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree in Nursing and current RN license plus EITHER:
Four (4) years' experience as a registered professional nurse.
Two years work experience in clinical nursing with responsibility and experience related to ADN curriculum competencies.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of A) and B).
