Description
The Advanced Fibers Systems business is headquartered in Richmond with all business functions located there. The Pursuances site is located near the border of Chesterfield and Henrico Counties in Richmond, VA. NOMEX®, KEVLAR®, and Tyvek® are three of the products manufactured at this facility. This position requires interaction with wage, professional, and management personnel in Operations, Maintenance, Technical, and Technical Marketing teams. The Engineer - Paper Manufacturing is visible to all levels of management, and the opportunities for career development at this location are very broad depending on job performance and career desires.
The job scope includes, but is not limited to:
Use of Six Sigma methodology to evaluate process and property data to identify and drive yield, quality and uptime improvements.
Monitoring product and process performance on a campaign to campaign basis.
Specifying, documenting and maintaining technology parameters to insure the process delivers product at the level of the quality required by the final customer.
Providing technical leadership to capital project teams to implement capacity, yield, or uptime improvements, as required at plant operations.
Working with Applications Research/R&D to scale-up new product/process developments at Contract Manufacturing Operations (this may include assistance during R&D trials, product testing, evaluation of new/current facility capabilities).
Working with Quality Engineers to ensure Quality systems and Best practices are documented appropriately.
Providing assistance to the contract operations facility during production campaigns to resolve short-term issues and improve understanding of key principles effecting operations.
Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree - Pulp & Paper Science or Pulp & Paper Science/Chemical Engineering
5 years or more demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in a manufacturing environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and a track record of fostering a respectful work environment.
High level of self-motivation, work ethic, initiative, and flexibility.
Demonstrated capability to resolve issues using fact-based problem solving.
Strong troubleshooting skills.
Demonstrated ability to understand manufacturing processes and best practices required to support operations.
Demonstrated ability to lead effective communication processes to resolve issues and ensure team alignment and understanding.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Ability to self-manage and network with other area/site/corporate resources.
Actively seeks ways of improving current methods, systems, and processes to provide customer satisfaction.
Demonstrated ability to use Lotus Notes and Microsoft Office Products.
Preference: Six Sigma certification; experience with paper manufacturing, sheet structures, and/or laminating technologies would be beneficial.
