Company Description: D. E. Shaw Research ("DESRES") is an independent research laboratory that conducts basic scientific research in the field of computational biochemistry under the direct scientific leadership of Dr. David Shaw, who serves as its Chief Scientist.
Job Description: Extraordinarily gifted mechanical engineers are sought to join a New York-based interdisciplinary research group that is developing special-purpose supercomputers designed in part to fundamentally transform the process of drug discovery.
This project aims to combine an innovative, massively parallel architecture incorporating 45-nanometer "system on a chip" ASICs with novel mathematical techniques and groundbreaking algorithmic advances in computational biochemistry to direct unprecedented computational power toward the solution of key scientific and technical problems in the field of molecular design.
The candidates we seek will be unusually intelligent and accomplished, with a demonstrated ability to design large-scale electronic systems. Relevant areas of expertise include high performance cooling systems, thermal and mechanical analysis, advanced multilayer PCBs and backplanes, DC power systems, and sheet metal chassis and enclosures. We are prepared to reward exceptionally well-qualified individuals with above-market compensation.
