Mechanics in this position work with and assist engineering, experimental, and test groups to develop parts, production methods, and procedures. These mechanics will assist in layout, develop, fabricate, and assemble complex compound and variable angled structural and mechanical parts for spares, experimental, and test projects. Employees will fabricate, install, maintain and repair hydraulic systems, hardware and equipment. Employees will fabricate and assemble instrumentation probes for engineering projects and testing. Employees may travel to out-plant locations to perform testing. Employees may have to work under adverse conditions at remote locations with a minimum of support. Employment in this position also requires lifting and push/pulling up to 35 pounds, flexion/extension, standing, walking, contact with metals, exposure to noise, exposure to atmospheric conditions. Requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling. The use of personal safety gear for Eyes/face, hand/arm, ears, feet, respirator, including fall protection may be needed. May require working in inclement weather conditions. Exposures to high voltage electricity, high-pressure air, steam, hydraulics, and explosive ordnance. Exposure to dust, fumes, resins, sealants, hydraulic fluid, lubricants, sky drol, solvents, adhesives, liquid nitrogen and cyanide gas. Frequently working with vibratory tools (e.g., rivet gun, drill motor).
Understand assembly and manufacturing processes and terminology. Read and interpret engineering, machine and/or tooling drawings or Blueprints. Operate computing equipment to access job information such as, blueprints, specifications. Work with others as part of a team which includes giving and receiving feedback, assisting others in completion of tasks; possess interpersonal, listening, and participation skills. Effectively communicate verbal information such as tie-ins and job related information. Work alone/independently. Maintain and update records. Operate various types of test equipment. Operate and interpret data from 3-D systems. Have knowledge of proper sealing techniques and correct cleaning procedures and solvents. Have knowledge of the proper use, handling and disposal of hazardous materials per government regulations and Boeing procedures. Use and create shop aids. Have knowledge of stationary and/or hand-held radio operation. Operate floor-operated cranes in a safe manner. Have knowledge of correct lifting and rigging procedures such as the selection and inspection of the appropriate slings, cables or chains. Operate mechanical lifts of various types such as, scissor lifts, elevated work platforms, in a safe manner. Set up and operate conventional optics such as alignment scopes, levels, transits, optical scales, optical squares and laser alignment kits. Fabricate hydraulic, pneumatic and vacuum tools using pumps, gauges and associated components. Make complex layouts on forgings, castings, parts or assemblies in order to establish reference points and to check dimensions. Knowledge of aircraft electrical and mechanical systems such as flight controls, engines, landing gear, radio, navigation systems, fuel injection systems, door rigging, flight control rigging, oxygen, ordnance and its handling. Have knowledge of aircraft power plant systems such as, fire detection and extinguishing, environmental control, hydraulic, starting and fuel systems. Knowledge of aircraft systems such as flight controls, power distribution, hydraulics, pneumatics, auxiliary power, proximity switch electronics, fueling, electronic engine control, and oxygen to enable performance of functional tests and other assigned tasks. Have knowledge of the coordinate system to identify multiple axes and airplane dimensional references. Perform copper and silver brazing operations per appropriate BAC specification. Knowledge of safe working practices, emergency procedures and possible dangerous situations
