SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the safety, quality, and cost effectiveness of the maintenance activities within the manufacturing operations of his/her area. These responsibilities include the career development of salary and hourly employees, the establishment of departmental objectives and key process parameters, and the management of an area maintenance budget. This individual should be a problem solver experienced in engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing operations. He/she should possess the ability to develop communication plans, lead work groups, and remove potential barriers in order to achieve improved performance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Establish benchmarks for superior safety performance by leading efforts in developing and enforcing the Area Maintenance Safety Improvement Plan.
Provide development opportunities for direct reports and subordinates.
Provide performance feedback to direct reports to ensure future growth.
Recommend and implement improvements and cost reductions.
Assist in the development and evaluation of Key Process Indicators.
Identify the causes of failures for equipment breakdowns and repetitive repairs.
Establish and maintain area maintenance budgets.
Direct Area Maintenance Engineers and their activities.
Coordinate the scheduling and planning efforts of the Maintenance Supervisors with the needs and objectives of the manufacturing units.
Function as the liaison between the Maintenance Manufacturing Unit and all other Plant and Corporate Departments.
Control maintenance area inventory and spending.
Provide an accurate and efficient maintenance area record system.
Guarantee the adherence to plant and governmental agency quality and environmental standards.
Provide an equipment reliability tracking system.
Establish a plan for improving mechanic accountability.
Utilize Lean Manufacturing concepts for continuous improvement by leading and promoting the
leadership of others in Lean Manufacturing activities.
Coordinate with Maintenance Supervisors to ensure that area PMs and repairs are prioritized, scheduled
and performed in a timely and professional manner
Lead all efforts around Environmental Compliance Guidelines
Responsible for the Maintenance Storeroom parts used in their areas of responsibility
Requirements
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field
Experience:
A minimum of five years experience in a managerial role in a manufacturing environment, experience in an FDA controlled environment is preferred
Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Minimum of three years experience in an FDA controlled environment
Experience in Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing
Skills/Competencies:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office systems such as Word and Excel
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Good planning and organizing skills
Awareness of fiscal responsibility
Ability to drive continuous improvement
Other Skills:
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:
This position reports to the Manager, Maintenance and Facilities. This position typically has several direct reports such as Supervisors, Maintenance, Engineers, and Planners. This position typically has several indirect reports such as Mechanics.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office and Manufacturing environment which may require use of personal protective equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses and work boots. Additional PPE may be required on some occasions.
