Sr. Labs Engineer - Wireless - Telecommunications
Salary Range: $90,000 to 100,000
Job Location: Milpitas, CA.
Responsibilities:
- Perform system and interoperability testing of 2G and 3G Unlicensed Mobile Access network and client software products and features.
- Contribute to the design, development and execution of the test tools, plans, test suites and defect reporting and resolution.
- Provide technical support to Kineto Labs partners and customers during interoperability test cycles. Work with the Kineto Engineering, Test and Product Support teams for troubleshooting and debugging network and client software issues.
- Diagnose and assess technical issues and articulate opinions on system issues.
-This is a hands-on, Senior Labs Engineer position that requires familiarity with a range of technology skills from real-time embedded systems to GSM/GPRS or related telecommunications.
- As a senior engineer, use your experience and analytical skills in order to understand and debug systems as well as develop creative and innovative solutions to problems as they arise. Foresee potential issues and proactively address them before they become problems.
Requirements:
At least 5-10 years experience of wireless telecommunications in a test role/organization required.
Good understanding of and experience with 2G and 3G mobile cellular telecom systems, architectures, and protocols: GSM/UMTS, GPRS/EDGE, Megaco/H.248, SIGTRAN, ATM required. GAN/UMA, Wm/S1 AAA desired.
Hands-on experience with 3G core network architecture elements highly desired.
A good understanding of 3G/2G mobile handsets and network operation.
Good understanding of Internet domain required, including: TCP/IP, routing, IPSec, DNS, and trace analysis using Ethereal and/or similar tools.
Good understanding and experience with VoIP including signaling and media gateways is required.
Experience with 802.11 is highly desired.
Good understanding of software test lifecycle, testing methodologies, tools and techniques required.
Ability to analyze and interpret standards and product feature specifications in order to derive test requirements and formulate test plans.
Experience developing and implementing test architectures, test strategies, test plans, test cases, and test reports required.
Test equipment experience with protocol analyzer/sniffer (e.g. Tektronics, Nethawk, Catapult, Ethereal), debuggers, and third party test equipment required.
Test script development experience using Catapult and/or other tools/scripting development/automation (ie C, Perl, XML, TCL/TKL) is highly desirable, as is experience with Unix/Linux.
Need to be highly organized to handle large number of simultaneous activities in a fast paced environment, yet flexible enough to respond quickly to critical issues.
Need to be a strong communicator who can relay technical issues in a clear, concise, manner, thru written technical documentation and oral presentations.
Bachelor's Degree in a technical field required (i.e., Computer Science, Telecom, Engineering). Well qualified exceptions will be considered (i.e. decades of hands on experience or military telecom experience)
There may be some limited amount of travel required to Kinetos partner lab facilities to assist in integration activities.
