| |
• Develop, lead, and promote Food Safety/Security initiatives for corporation.
• Develop and evaluate food safety programs and practices throughout the organization, including: safe food production and handling procedures; avoidance and elimination of cross-contamination and temperature abuse; promoting good personal hygiene of food handlers; implementation of HACCP principles, where applicable; ensuring food protection, transportation, processing, and storage methods and procedures meet all food safety/security standards, etc.
• Develop, promote, and maintain a Food Safety section on the Giant Eagle website.
• Audit food safety training and certification programs.
• Develop and maintain a tracking/trending system for health department, agriculture department, and internal food safety inspections.
• Coordinate product recall procedures to include the chargeback of losses and expenses.
• Cultivate positive relationships with various health and agriculture agencies and ensure compliance with established food safety, food security, and food handling procedures.
• During emergencies (fires, floods, power outages, etc.), provide technical assistance, guidance, and consultation to satisfy regulatory agencies, promote food safety, and protect the banner.
• Reduce shrink, improve product quality, and improve shelf life of perishable products by developing, promoting, and evaluating safe food handling procedures.

• Participate in the selection of food production and storage equipment, and the design of new and remodeled facilities.
• Ensure the education/training of Company food handlers on food safety procedures.
• Experience with quality control and food safety procedures within the food industry.
